🌀 Kura Photos are still scheduled for Wed 22.10.25. There will be NO KURA Thur 23.10.25 due to Kaiako Strike Action 🌀
🎙️ 👉🏽14.10.25 - STRIKE ACTION, NO KURA NEXT THURSDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2025 👈🏽 🔊
Tēna koutou ngā whānau o te Kura,
We are emailing all our whānau to notify you of the planned strike action from 7am until 7pm next Thursday 23rd October 2025 by employees who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa and PPTA and who are covered by the following collective agreement;
- Area School Teachers Collective Agreement
Our Kura is covered by this agreement in both NZEI Te Riu Roa and PPTA members.
NZEI Te Riu Roa and PPTA members of the Kura with respective unions have voted to support the industrial action because the Government has failed to provide offers in negotiations that will ensure educators get the resources we need to support tamariki or the pay that will attract and keep quality professionals in our Kura.
PPTA members have scheduled partial strike action as follows;
We have restructured our timetable to support the partial strike action accordingly with no impact to our Tau 7-13 tauira.
Next Thursday 23rd October 2025, the Kura will be closed as our kaiako will be on strike. Non-union members are not on strike. However, without registered kaiako on site to ensure the smooth running of the Kura, we can not provide a safe duty of care.
We will be cancelling the scheduled Hākinakina Team photos for this day and making contact with the photographer to come back another day. The Kura Photos for whānau & class photos will still go ahead the day before on Wednesday 22nd October 2025.
We encourage whānau to make necessary arrangements for this day in advance.
Kura and our 7x pahi will resume as normal on Friday 24th October 2025.
We also remind whānau that Monday 26th October 2025 is Labour Day, public holiday.
We ask whānau to show support to our kaiako and Kura.
You are invited to sign the petition below calling for the Government to back our future and invest in education.
See the latest pānui sent out to whānau about our annual Kura Photos scheduled for Wednesday 22nd October & Thursday 23rd October 2025.
Order envelopes will be named and sent home with the eldest of each whānau or only child āpōpō.

10. ABSENCES - If your tamaiti is returning from holiday later than expected...let the Kura know now. When ever your tamaiti will be absent from Kura, whānau must contact the Kura. WENEREI 10TH SEPTEMBER 2025
Following email sent to all whānau of the Kura.
Kia ora whānau,
Please see our need to know reminders or pānui for all whānau of the Kura.
1. Our last day for Term 3 is next Thursday 18th September 2025. There is NO KURA the following day. No Kura pahi will be operating next Friday. Please ensure you have made the necessary arrangements for the early term finish.
2. Annual Wellington Free Ambulance Onesie Appeal - we will be supporting this annual fundraiser on our last day of Kura next week - Thursday 18th September 2025. Tamariki can wear tidy kaka hākinakina on this day and wear a onesie to Kura or bring it in their bag to wear after karakia-a-whare. We ask whānau to bring a gold coin koha to go towards the appeal.
3. Mātua drop off in the mornings - as well as having a dedicated kaimahi in the carpark each morning this term, we have been leaving three orange cones set up in the car park to remind whānau to turn left when exiting our car park in the mornings. The front area of our Tari is to remain clear from 8.15am-9.15am to allow space for our 7x pahi to arrive and unload our tamariki safely.
4. Kākahu Kura - during the colder months, tamariki are allowed to wear plain navy blue track pants. This does not include cargo pants. Just plain track pants. Black sandals with back straps are allowed to be worn next term too. No crocs or jandals.
5. Sore Throat checks - click here for a list of local pharmacies that can swab sore throats to check for strep throat. Strep throat is treated with antibiotics. If strep throat is left untreated it can lead to the development of rheumatic fever, which can damage joints and the heart.
6. Uiui Mātua - thank you to all our whānau who booked in and have seen our kaiako across the Kāhui Kura back in Wiki 6 & 7 and then our Kura Teina in Wiki 8 & 9. We are on the last night for this week. If whānau have not met with our kaiako - please ensure your hui is completed by the end of this term.
7. Rubbish on the pahi - our bus drivers are having to deal with rubbish on the pahi. This is why we do not allow tamariki to eat on the pahi. We are finding rubbish tucked on the side and between chairs or thrown at the back row of seats on the pahi. Please kōrero to our tamariki about being good kaitiaki of our Kura pahi. There are bins on each pahi and as soon as tamariki step off the pahi at Kura there is a big green rubbish bin for them to use too.
8. Personal belongings and toys - please ensure your tamaiti/tamariki are not bringing their toys or items of value to Kura. It causes too much unnecessary stress and time for our kaiako to have to deal with these incidents.
9. No kaukau lessons next term - due to pool unavailability, there will be no kaukau (swimming) lessons next term for all tauira of the Kura. We ask our whānau to please invest in pool time with your tamaiti as we head in to summer especially around water safety. We are continuing our negotiations with Hutt City Council pools for a commitment of dedicated time and spaces for our Kura in 2026.
10. Pōtae - as part of our Kura tikanga, it is compulsory for tauira to wear a fully brimmed pōtae in Term 1 & Term 4 of the year. If tamariki do no have a pōtae, they will need to stay seated under the shaded areas of the Kura. We do have pōtae available for purchase from the Tari. Pōtae cost $13.50 each.

12. Do we have your correct contact details? - Kaiako have been asking whānau to check their details during their uiui mātua. If you didn't get the chance to update with our kaiako - ring the Tari to check. We can update over the phone or you can email the Tari with the updated information to tari@tawkkm.school.nz
13. Bus issues - please see attached our visual process for reporting any bus issue. We have a dedicated after hours process that whānau can ring in the afternoons. Do not board any of our Kura pahi. Our daily bus duty kaiako will follow up with tamariki the next day.
14. Bus changes - please ensure you contact the Tari by 2pm. This gives the Tari more time to get your pānui to kaiako so your tamaiti goes home on the right pahi or will be picked up by whānau. Our Kura site is larger than previous years and we need time to get the pānui to the right place. If we do not receive a pānui/call/email from whānau, tauira will catch their normal pahi home. No pānui - No changes.

KURA EMAIL UPDATE BEFORE THE LONG WEEKEND
FRIDAY 30TH MAY 2025
Kia ora whānau,
Please see some updates and new info for all whānau of the Kura as we head towards the middle of Term 2 and long weekend.
PUBLIC HOLIDAY - next Monday 2nd June 2025. No Kura on this day. Kura pahi will operate as normal on Tuesday 3rd June 2025. If travelling this weekend, please keep to the speed limit and travel safely.
DENTAL VAN - on site since last Thursday till the end of this Term. They are here to see our Tau 1 to Tau 8 tamariki only. If your tamaiti returns home with a pānui to seek further treatment, please ensure you action the request.
AFTER KURA HĀKINAKINA - Whaea Emai updates a google sheet which is live and on our Kura website with weekly draws. Please ensure you are looking at the right date tab at the bottom. Go to https://www.tawkkm.school.nz/hākinakina to check each week.
KURA JERSEY OR JACKET - We are seeing tamariki arrive without a jersey or acceptable jacket. The KidsCan jackets we had embroidered back in 2023 and 2024 were a one off. Tamariki can wear a black or navy blue jacket if they no longer fit or have the KidsCan issued jacket. We have new Kura jerseys in stock from $82-$91. Click here to order new Kura uniform online
ROMAN SANDALS - are acceptable in Term 1 and Term 4 only. The weather is too cold for our tamariki to be wearing sandals. Please ensure they wear covered black Kura shoes daily in Term 2 & Term 3.
KEETI MĀTUA - when the weather is wet or raining, tamariki mātua will wait in Te Whare o Keriana for pick up. One of our kaitiaki will advise whānau from the gate to walk in and collect your tamaiti/tamariki.
MORNING DROP OFF'S - We remind whānau that kaimahi are available from 8.30am. Our keeti mātua are opened at 8.30am. Please do not drop off before this time as kaimahi are not always available due to early morning hui.
CONED OFF ĀTEA SPACE - The ātea (back of Tari walking out to the Whare) space has been coned off to ensure tamariki/kaimahi walk under the walkways. During our wet weather months, the pavement bricks get slippery. To avoid slips or accidents, we encourage all whānau to walk under our mahau.
PINK SHIRT DAY - Thank you for helping us raise $530.00 to go towards this kaupapa on Friday 16th May 2025. All proceeds have been forwarded to the organisers.
NETSAFE - Do your tamariki have digital devices at home? If you need awhi with how to manage the devices or how to monitor online content or behavior go check out https://netsafe.org.nz/parents-and-caregivers for advice and support.
DAILY BUS CHANGES - the Tari needs to know this info by 2.15pm daily. This gives us time to get the pānui down to kaiako and update our daily bus boards.
UPDATED CONTACT DETAILS - the Tari needs to know for emergency purposes if ANY of your contact details have changed. You can email, ring or pop in to let us know.
TERM 2 ENDS - Friday 27th June 2025 at our normal time of 3pm.

It is with deep sadness that we inform our Kura whānau of the passing of our dear kaimahi, Papa Gideon Te Ahuru, who passed away suddenly this morning Thursday 6th February 2025.
Papa Gideon was a valued member of our Kura and wider Waiwhetu community.
Our thoughts are with his whānau during this difficult time.
Gideon was the beloved partner of our Tumuaki, Mama Kararaina Luke.
As a mark of respect, our Tumuaki Tuarua have made the decision to close the Kura tomorrow - Friday 7th February 2025.
We ask that whānau keep their tamariki home for this day. We have contacted our bus provider and no buses will operate.
Kura will re-open for instruction on Monday 10th February 2025.
As of 11:45 AM today, the immediate whānau have yet to make an official announcement. We kindly ask that you respect this and refrain from sharing this karere until they have done so. This pānui has been emailed to the current email addresses we have for our Kura whānau.
